Privacy Policy

Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how Rune ("we," "our," or "us") handles information when you use the Rune iOS app and related public pages we provide for the app. Rune is designed to keep most app data on your device and to minimize the information we collect.

Information the App Stores on Your Device

Rune stores app data locally on your device so features can work. Depending on how you use Rune, this may include:

  • Focus session history, session duration, completion status, and related statistics
  • Recurring schedules, templates, streaks, achievements, goals, and focus score data
  • Website blocking preferences and blocked domain lists
  • App blocking selections and related blocking preferences
  • Habit tracking data and reminder preferences
  • Subscription status cached on device and trial status
  • Location-based schedule settings you create in the app
  • Notification preferences and onboarding/settings choices

Some of this data may also be included in your own iCloud or device backups if you have backups enabled with Apple.

Permissions and Apple Frameworks We Use

Screen Time / Family Controls

Rune uses Apple's Screen Time-related frameworks, including Family Controls, Managed Settings, and Device Activity, to help you block apps and support scheduled focus features. Apple's system represents selected apps and categories using privacy-preserving tokens and system controls. Blocking is applied locally through Apple's system features on your device.

Safari Content Blocker

If you use website blocking, Rune stores the domains you choose and sends blocker rules to Rune's Safari content blocker extension on your device so Safari can block matching websites locally.

Location

If you enable location-based schedules, Rune requests location access so it can determine whether you are inside or outside locations you configured for schedule activation. Location checks are used for that feature and are intended to run locally on your device.

Notifications

Rune may request permission to send local notifications for reminders, recurring sessions, habit actions, and related focus events.

Information We Do Not Intend to Collect From the App

Based on the current Rune app design, we do not intend to collect personal information from the app on our own servers such as your name, email address, contacts, photos, or payment card details unless we clearly tell you otherwise in a future update.

  • We do not receive your App Store payment card information
  • We do not receive the contents of your contacts, photos, or messages
  • We do not run third-party advertising in the app
  • We do not claim to receive a complete feed of your Screen Time history from Apple's system

Third-Party Services

Apple App Store and In-App Purchases

If you purchase Rune Premium or another in-app purchase, the transaction is processed by Apple. We do not receive your full payment credentials. Apple may provide us with transaction and subscription status information needed to determine whether premium access should be enabled.

Crash Reporting and Analytics

The current Rune app is intended to operate primarily without transmitting app analytics to us. If we enable crash reporting, analytics, or other third-party SDKs in a future release, we will update this Privacy Policy and our App Privacy disclosures to describe the data involved, how it is used, and any choices available to you.

Website Analytics

Our public website may use website analytics tools separate from the iOS app. Those website tools do not change the app-specific disclosures above.

Data Retention and Deletion

Because Rune is designed to keep most app data on your device, retention is generally controlled by you.

  • You can delete app data from within the app where those controls are available
  • You can remove data by uninstalling the app from your device
  • Backup copies may remain in your Apple-managed backups until those backups are replaced or deleted by you
  • If we later begin storing user data on our servers, we will update this policy with the relevant retention periods and deletion process

Your Choices and Rights

  • Permissions: You can deny or revoke Screen Time, location, notification, and other device permissions in iOS settings
  • App Data: You can review or change many settings directly in the app
  • Deletion: You can delete locally stored app data by removing the app, and by managing any device backups through Apple
  • Questions: You can contact us if you need help understanding how Rune handles data

Children's Privacy

Rune is not directed to children under 9, consistent with its App Store age rating, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children through the app. If you believe personal information was provided to us by a child, contact us so we can review the situation.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will post the updated version here and change the "Last updated" date above.
